PERFORMANCE DATA FOR INFORMED GROWER DECISIONS

PERFORMANCE DATA FOR INFORMED GROWER DECISIONS

Sevita invests heavily to generate extensive data on our commercial varieties. Beyond participation in on-farm plots, demonstration sites, and provincial trials, we conduct trials at private research sites across Canada.

We continue to evaluate our proprietary varieties against a select set of competitive products to help us generate solid data to allow you to make informed decisions for your business and to maximize your return on investment.

How to Use the Plot Tool

We have enhanced our online plot tool for easy selection and comparisons that relate to your region. Below we highlight each section of the new plot tool and how to use them.

Plot Map

The plot map tool allows users to quickly find current and past plots within driving distance from their farm.

  1. Enter your address, city, or postal code and select the distance you are interested in looking at (50 km, 100 km, 200 km, etc.), and press the search button.
  2. A map will show all the plots within the selected area on a map. Click on the icons to see more information on the plot, or view the list below.
  3. You can click directly on the map icon to view the plot details or scroll down to the list that shows an overview of the plot details and the products in the plot. To refine the list, filter by year, trait type, plot type, etc.
  4. Click on a plot and see how different products performed. At the top of the chart, you can toggle between metric or imperial units based on your preference. You can also choose to display in order of field position or by yield by clicking on the column heading for each.

Plot Results

The plot results page allows users to view all the past plot data by variety and see an average yield. Users are able to filter by their province and county to see how the variety of interest performed in similar growing conditions to their own.

  1. Use the Relative Maturity slider at the top of the page to filter the list of varieties to your growing region. Then select any additional desired filters on the left.
  2. Click on a variety of interest to see a list of plots it has been tested in the past and the yield it achieved.
  3. You can click on a specific on-farm plot and view all the products tested in the plot, including other Sevita varieties and competitors in similar maturities. All of the plot data, including soil type, tillage, planting, and harvest date is displayed.
  4. At the top of the chart, you can toggle between metric or imperial units based on your preference. You can also choose to display in order of field position or by yield by clicking on the column heading for each.
  5. Check out a few plots to see how the variety performed in your growing region throughout the years!

Plot Reports

The plot reports page allows users to compare varieties head to head that have appeared in plots together for both yield performance and revenue opportunity. Rather than comparing performance in different locations, this tool compares varieties in the same growing conditions.

  1. Use the Relative Maturity slider at the top of the page to filter the list of varieties to your growing region. Then select any additional desired filters on the left.

  2. Select a variety of interest and compare either by selecting other varieties or by selecting specific plot characteristics of interest (such as trait, soil type, row width, etc.).

  3. The filters you selected will produce a list of varieties compared to the originally selected variety. You are able to see how many times the varieties were located in the same plot and the percentage of times the originally selected variety was the higher yielder.

  4. For many food-grade products, the highest yielding does not always mean the most profitable option for growers. We have added a function to this tool that allows you to factor in the food-grade premium and soybean price. Click the revenue comparison button at the top of the page, select your region and enter your local soybean price to view a report that reflects the potential revenue for each variety.
